Missing APN configuration fields "MVNO type" and "MVNO value"

Hoping for help with configuring APN settings for a physical Mint Mobile SIM card.

Card has been physically installed and activated via the Mint Mobile app.

I can get voice calls and SMS.
However data and MMS are not working.

I believe this is due to missing fields in the APN configuration settings.

The following fields are recommended to configure by Mint Mobile:

MVNO type: GID
MVNO value: 756D

But they are simply not exposed in GOS's settings. There is no field with these names.

Can anyone help troubleshoot?
I know Mint Mobile is popular with some folks here.

For references, on the mint mobile website, they instruct the following for APN configuration:

Go into your phone’s Settings

Select Connections or Search Access Point Names
Select Mobile Networks

Tap Access Point Names (APN)

Tap the 3-dot menu in the top right > Reset to default

Select Add to enter the following information as shown (Note: the input process is case sensitive):

APN Settings

Name – Mint
APN – Wholesale
Proxy – (leave blank)
Port – (leave blank)
Username – (leave blank)
Password – (leave blank)
Server – (leave blank)
MMSC – http://wholesale.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc
Multimedia Message Proxy – (leave blank)
Multimedia Message Port – 8080
MCC – (do not change default values)
MNC – (do not change default values)
Authentication Type – (leave blank)
APN Type – default,supl,mms,ia
APN Protocol – IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol – IPv4/IPv6
MVNO type: GID
MVNO value: 756D

Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select Save

Ensure that the new Access Point Name is selected

Restart your phone

zzz Can't keep track of all of the carriers, but I thought this one worked?

I'd try resetting mobile network settings from the owner profile in Settings > System > Reset options. You may try restarting after doing that, but I don't think it's necessary.

An old post from 2022 confirms that these MVNO fields are important and used to be configurable in GOS:

But seemingly now they are not.

I forgot to mention, device is a Pixel 8a running 2025073000.

I tried it, no luck. The needed fields are simply not exposed in the GOS settings where they should be.

If you navigate here in GOS settings:

Settings -> Network & internet -> SIMs -> [select installed SIM] -> Access Point Names -> "+" button on top right to add new APN

There should be options listed that enable configuring "MVNO type" and "MVNO value".
But those fields seem to be missing.

The 2022 thread I linked to earlier suggests that these fields used to be exposed and configurable in the GOS settings.

Perhaps there is some kind of AOSP upstream change that has caused this regression?

If you think this is worth formally reporting, I'd be happy to ticket this on the github issue tracker.

I just took a look at the APN Name configuration on a P9 running GrapheneOS and a P9P running Stock, both running Android 16. Neither have configuration fields for MVNO type or MVNO value anymore. This isn't a GrapeneOS regression. Your problem/solution likely lies elsewhere.

If you have access to a different SIM and/or different android phone, then swapping things around might provide clues. The bigger hammers would be a new SIM from Mint and/or factory reset. You're really not giving us any clues about what you've done or might have done that might have disabled mobile data. To me it smells like a configuration or Mint issue. Reinstalling Stock OS is also an option to eliminate GOS as a problem.

I'm baffled myself.

Phone was purchased used, but succeeded with checks in the Auditor app.
This phone is mostly a fresh install of GOS with barely anything on it.
No VPN, no network settings modified from factory default (aside from what Mint instructs to do on their guide, with the exception of the MVNO fields obv)

The SIM card from Mint is also brand new, fresh out of the packing.

Mint Mobile app was downloaded via Aurora in private space, but it succeeded in activating the SIM.
Voice+SMS works fine.

WiFi works on this device.

In about a week I'll have the opportunity to swap different SIMs into this phone and different phones with this SIM for more tests.
Will report back with findings.

Coming back to my P8a setup with Mint SIM about a week later, it seems the issue has resolved itself.

I now have full SIM functionality (data, voice, SMS, MMS).

I didn't need to apply any additional configuration or contact Mint support.

To people in the future who may have a similar issue, the best I can offer is to wait 48hrs+ for the issue to resolve.

Still would be curious to learn about why these MVNO config fields are now hidden in GOS and stock Pixel OS. If anyone has links to further reading, would be much appreciated.
