Accrescent needs funding

tac I don’t know if adding paid apps to Accrescent is a good idea or not, but another thing is that it’s hard to pay anonymously on Play Store with gift cards, because they will usually require some sort of verification after it has already been added, which often results in loss of funds. The biggest issue might be that if it’s added, it is no longer a non-profit, which could have implications.

Accrescent does already have Cryptomator, which is paid, but I think that it’s probably too hard for app developers to add a licensing function like that.

+1 on Bank Transfers/IBAN (if it's not too much trouble..) Github Sponsors is a no-go for me.

lberrymage any chance for some kind of collaboration with Magic Earth? They could benefit from Accrescent providing the update checking and autoupdate functionality so that they don't need to spend dev time on making their own, and Accrescent could get more visibility and advertising from Magic Earth directing users to it (which may get more eyes on it willing to donate.)

Ammako Since you mentioned it, Magic Earth is currently working on more private payment option. From their website:

thmf yes, and for that they also need to have the app available outside of Play Store. They could have a direct apk download on their website, but that would be less secure for the initial install, and would require extra dev time to implement a self-updater (or worse, no update checking at all.) Accrescent would solve both of these issues and be beneficial to everyone I think.

Overlay1404 Yeah, what I want to know is what information about the device is shared to Accrescent servers, even if their privacy policy says they won't fingerprint you it would be better to not have to trust their word.

Accrescent should be better than F-droid in privacy.

Is there any update on alternative donation methods? Github sponsors needs a credit card if I remember right and I (and I think many others too) would really appreciate the option of bank transfer (SEPA).

In theory, any of the myriad things an app can find out on Android. Device model, amount of free storage space, time zone, SIM country code...

To be clear, I am not claiming anything like that is happening! But the fundamental difference between client-side filtering and server-side is that server-side filtering involves the client sending information to the server.

If Proton could send funds, that would be great, and it would ensure development for a while (hopefully donations won't drop after Proton's donation), but if Proton could deploy its apps on Accrescent, that would also be a nice boost.

I have submitted GrapheneOS but asked them to be generous with Accrescent. I don't think that Accrescent might get enough attention to get funded.
