Battery Optimization: No automatic calibration with Android 16?

I use GOS with battery optimisation activated, which limits charging to 80%.

Usually, the battery is calibrated automatically at regular intervals by charging it to 100% occasionally. However, with Android 16, the battery has never been charged to 100% automatically – it remains at 80% all the time.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Are there any discussions or planned fixes for this issue?

Would it be advisable to occasionally disable Battery Optimisation manually (e.g. once every two weeks) and fully charge the device to 100%? Would this perform a battery calibration?

I am using GOS with a Pixel 9a, build 20250730.

How often did that happen before the Android 16 Upgrade? More than once a month? It's just 5 weeks since GOS Android 16 initial release.

I can confirm this on a pixel 8 too.
Before android 16 the calibration to 100% was engaged about once a week, since the new version it never occurred.
I think it's a upstream bug.

For me it was the same, usually the calibration and charging up to 100% happened every 7-10 days.

Are there any hints that this is an upstream bug? And would it perform a battery calibration, if I charge the device manually up to 100%?

I have no idea but that's what I do, charge to 100% and hope it recalibrates.

Does anyone have an update on this? Did you guys calibrated by yourselves?

Mine hasn’t done a 100% charge since June I think.

xmesc Hi, I am using a new Pixel 9a since the end of July and I also run into this issue. I checked Github for open issues and couldn't find anything related. Should I create a new issue there or do the developers also check for issues on the forums?

sudo777 They do check here but the GitHub will always have priority so you can open an issue there.

It would be helpful to know if this is an upstream bug (android 16 bug) or a GOS bug. I really can't tell since it's happening right after we all updated to A16.

In the meantime I'm just calibrating manually once a week.

sudo777 One of the devs (seemingly Daniel Micay himself) moved the issue to the correct repo, now it can be found at:

(The grapheneos.org repo is related to website concerns.)

He also added the 'upstream' label, so it seems to be an AOSP issue.

Quantum So I thought I'd check up on the issue on Github. My phone hasn't charged to 100% in the meantime with Charging Optimization enabled, but I am not a heavy user. Can anyone confirm their phone has charged at least once to 100% with Charging Optimization enabled?
