Hello!
I've only been using GrapheneOS for a few weeks now on a fresh Pixel 9 Pro. I installed it with the web installer and it has been running without issue until now.
But today I got a problem that I haven't been able to resolve for like 2 hours, so I wanted to ask whether anyone knows what else I can do. I've got very stupid timing where I've used the OS for long enough to migrate all my important data and Logins to it, but not long enough to have configured proper backups :( So I would really prefer it if I didn't have to factory reset the phone to resolve the issue..
What the Issue looks like:
The phone is stuck on the black bootup screen with the GrapheneOS logo. The logo is still animated with that slow color gradient, so the screen isn't frozen. I can get the phone to shut off by holding the power button and it does show the Google logo and the normal "You're running a different OS" screen before booting back up to the black GrapheneOS screen. I can get into fastboot mode.
What I was doing just before:
- I added two more fingerprints to my User profile.
- Switched to the Owner profile and removed the fingerprint screen lock by deleting the two saved fingerprints.
- Changed my Owner profile screen lock from a PIN to a password.
- Enabled Notification forwarding from the Owner profile.
- Added a new Profile that isn't allowed to run in the background or recieve calls
- Went to set up the new Profile and successfully got to the first setup page.
- Clicked on the Language selection and chose a weird looking Language that was named something like "Éñglïšh one two with accents" (i wanted to see what it looks like)
- The phone went to the black GrapheneOS screen right after choosing the language and stayed in there for like 15mins before I restarted it for the first time
Other things that might be relevant:
- I'm on the Android 16 GrapheneOS and have enabled all the options that are needed to try out the android Desktop mode (something like "force fullscreen", but I don't remember the others)
- There probably was a software update tonight? At least I remember that the phone had a "restart to finish app ipdates" notification this morning that I swiped away and forgot about)
- My bootloader is locked like it was described in the setup guide
- I'm pretty sure that my battery was at around 80% before everything broke, I have charged it in fastboot mode since then so I think it should be full now
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
