I didn't have any problem using my EV apps on GOS. Zap Map needs Google Play Services installed though as like many it uses the embedded map functionality.
Interesting point about cars though. EVs are definitely next in the "you will own nothing and be happy" line of fire and built from the ground up for everything to be done through the dealer (afaik mine even needs to be connected to the phone-home diagnostic thing just to release the e-brake so you can change the discs) and with obstacles thrown at independent garages if they want to repair anything. For sure all the smart tech and tracking are built in.
Logically if it's government kind of surveillance you're concerned about it's always been there, we all have registration numbers and cameras are everywhere. You'd have to throw that idea out of the window with any car. You're in public and need to keep in mind that everywhere you go is public. At least they're not automatically fining for speeding, although I guess they'd probably just go for hard limits built into the cars instead.
But yeah it's another pie that Google has its fingers in. Not sure there's much you can do about it. Unplug the TCU maybe, until it's used as an excuse to void your insurance.
