SMS notifications unneccessary tap on secondary profile

Bear with me if this has already been asked but I did not find a solution.

When I get an SMS while being on my secondary profile I get a notification but the notification says I have to tap it in order to read. This does not make sense because the screen is already unlocked.

How can I change the settings so the message is immediately displayed in the case of an unlocked display?

That's a good one, I had an app that required a code that was delivered via SMS but when I navigated from the Messaging app back to the application that needed it I was prompted for my login credentials again so I could never login. I eventually fixed it using the Copy SMS Code app on F-Droid.

I'm glad this is a default, but it can be cumbersome.
Anything with notifications access would be able to view the message.

When I was setting up a pixel watch I had to give play services notifications access. I was very happy that for most of my apps there was no info in the notifications that could be collected and shared.

A toggle would be helpful if profile independent and it didn't allow access when not allowed.
Keep in mind other app access before toggling it.

ThisOldGuy One of us is not understanding notification permission right.

I believe that when I grant an app such as Play Services notification permission this app can then display notifications. But the app cannot read notifications from other apps. If I wanted an app to read SMS such as Whatsapp for the verification SMS then I have to grant Whatsapp SMS permission not notifications.

So it has no advantage that this setting is default. Anyway, AFAIK a user cannot change it.

There are two Notification settings, one is special app access Notification read reply control. By default only the launcher has this enabled.

Other apps can request this. Google play services does in certain situations. Other apps have also requested, like ones wanting to use the SMS 2fa code.

There is also a notification history toggle, but I'm not sure what allows that data to be reviewed or how it's stored in GOS although I have been curious.

Nice to know. For me as well the launcher is the only app with this special permission. So there is no risk that private data would be disclosed when sms would be displayed. SMS is unencrypted anyway so there is no reason to treat them stricrer than i.e. Whatsapp or signal messages. The latter show up directly by default.

I am still interested in an answer to the original question. But I start to believe that this is a bug.

I have the same issue and not found a solution. Even in unlocked mode I see "New message" as both title and content in a secondary profile. Only when I open the message I can read the content.
