Using Play Services functionality without a Google acccount

Currently I only use one app from the Play Store which is Signal. I only need the Play Store app because of the FCM it provides. Websocket and UnifiedPush are just not working reliably for me. I was wondering if it would be possible to use FCM without a Play Store account? Let's say I download Signal or Molly outside the Play Store and I setup Play Services without creating a Google account just as a means to have a reliable notification system in place. I would appreciate feedback regarding this particular setup.

Yes, it is possible, and it works as expected. Play Services just needs unrestricted battery and network access. You do not need to be logged on to the Play Store. Your accounts and passwords settings can be free of any Google accounts.
Please note - you need to install Play Services first, configure it and then install any FCM dependent apps after.
