I did the update right before I went to bed. Upon rebooting there was some error code. I was staying for an extra 1.5 hours waiting for a call after midnight and was very, very tired. I was so tired I forgot to even take a screen shot of it. For two reboots it was there. I just gave up and went to bed but now it seems ok. gn.... Maybe. Everything seems to be working ok though. Haven't used to many apps though yet. Visiting my mom out of town that I try to do once a year. Sorry, Pixel 9 Pro.

Haven't tried it too extensively yet, (night here in Europe) but will report back if something's amiss.

Morwendara what release channel are you on? If you are on stable, it hasn't reached stable yet. Just alpha and beta channels. This may be helpful.

At the time of writing, 2025071900 is in stable channel and 2025072800 (which was announced here) currently is in beta channel:

So you're probably in stable channel. You can check this out under Settings > System > System Updates > Release Channel.

Some info about the release process:

Releases are tested by the developers and then published via the alpha channel. Shortly thereafter, the release is published via the beta channel. Finally, after testing by beta channel users, the release is published via the stable channel. In some cases, issues are discovered during beta channel testing and a new release is published via the beta channel to replace the aborted one. In general, downgrading is not possible unless a downgrade update package is created. Therefore, use the stable channel if you cannot tolerate temporary issues while a new release is being created for the beta channel.

Morwendara what you can do is save a bookmark that points to the latest GOS release for your specific device.
E.g. I've got a P7a and the following bookmark allows me to check the status of the latest release: https://grapheneos.org/releases#lynx

Yes. But "released" means "released to the alpha channel". It is released in the sense that it is built, signed, and available for people to run. But that does not mean that it instantly appears on all devices, or even that pressing "Check for updates" on every device will install it right away.

In general, if you see that a new GrapheneOS version has been released, and your device doesn't have it three days later, that might be time to check up on what's happening. Sometimes a version is released and then yanked.

Not even that. Mostly when another release is announced here like in this thread's first post it's not even in alpha release channel. But the release notes/changelog are published already. Usually it takes a few hours or maybe less than an hour after that announcement to go to alpha channel. And then usually one or two days through beta to stable channel if no serious bugs are detected.

I guess that could be true. But I have a faint sense that there are multiple update servers (for redundancy and to improve performance based on geography) and it can take a bit for all of them to agree.

If that is the case, then the release announcement may mean that some (random) clients can see the new release at the moment of the posting.

de0u The updates are uploaded to each of the currently 3 servers prior to being moved into the Alpha channel so there's no significant delay between the different servers.
