What should users know to select reliable USB C cables?
I am aware that some USB cables may not work properly for data transfer. I read that in the installation instructions and it affected me personally. Thanks to the warning in the GOS instructions, I recognized the problem quickly. Using the cable that came with the P7 and an USB A adapter solved my problem. For the info of everyone else, my connected computer is 10+ years old, runs Ubuntu 22.04, and I have had no problems with data transfer other than from that one non-Google cable.
However I had bought what I thought was a quality cable from Canada Computers to avoid a problem, having carefully read the instllation instructions first. I looked at the cable's box carefully for the specs. And it was not a cheap $5 cable which I would not expect to work reliably or last.
Yesterday I bought a new iCAN (CC's house brand) 6 foot cable, which, again, was not the cheapest. The box states "100W super charge USB Type C to C Cable" and "Data Transfer up to 480 Mbps." I have not yet unboxed it.
Are these box claims / indicative of a USB C cable that should work reliably? If not, what should we look for to get a cable that works properly like the short Google cable?
I am asking here because having a properly-functioning cable is essential to getting GrapheneOS installed, so this info is important to all GrapheneOS users.
