Call recording causing audio service crashes and call interruptions

r134a It seems that call recording is returning to the stock OS. Hopefully, this move by Google to open up call functionality will, as much as possible, make it easier for other apps or systems like GrapheneOS to record calls.

bobbed859 this sounds like it's coming to PixelOS; not AOSP. Doesn't really change the situation much, unless it's completely implemented in the Phone app (which I doubt at this point, since Google has been offloading functionality to different apps in recent times).

bobbed859 google's dialer already has a call recording button in it. All they're saying is that it will work in more countries. Link also says that it will tell the other party that the call is being recorded, which is pretty crappy.

Just to add to this thread, while in my initial sequence of tests the crash occured roughly between 5-6 mins, in practice they do occur at random times. Had it happen at 3 ish minutes, 9ish minutes etc.

Not sure why in my initial tests they were kinda predictable from a time perspective. Probably because they were all done in sequence shortly after eachother. In practice when calls happen at random under different circumstances, with random time between these calls, the crashes seem to happen at random aswell from a time perspective.

Your input is amazingly detailed and thorough, thank you! I'm glad I'm not alone, I had been suspecting it was happening when there was an internet glitch triggering it, not the recording. I'll have to test if this occurs for me only when the call is being recorded, I thought it happened regardless, however I always record my longer calls. It will be a good thing to try.

I also always use speakerphone. Do you not have issues when you are using Bluetooth or handset? Hm, not sure if recording works in those situations.

For any contributors working on this, maybe not helpful:
I find after a while, after multiple crashes, the call seems to drop. If I put it on hold and flip back, the call returns and I can hear the person again.

The problem occurs under the following conditions:

The call is being recorded.
The screen lock is activated.

As a temporary workaround, I’ve set the screen lock timeout to 30 minutes. This way, the audioserver crash does not occur.
