Trying to connect Pixel 9 Pro XL to Linux laptop - "could not access device"

Hi All,
I'm trying to connect my Pixel 9 Pro XL running GrapheneOS on my Linux laptop (TuxedoOS, so Ubuntu-based).
At physical connection, my device shows up, but when I choose to open it via file manager, I get an error stating:

Could not access device. Make sure it is unlocked, and tap "Allow" on the popup on its screen. If that does not work, make sure MTP is enabled in its USB connection settings.

Can you please help me understand how to indeed connect the device properly?
I'd need to send SMS through my computer (probably using KDE Connect, but all recommendations are welcome).

gaufffke have you modified the USB-C port in the exploit protection setting ? Maybe it's the reason. I remember I wasn't able to connect a USB STICK on my pixel 8 pro until I realised I'd modified the setting to "charging only"

I know it has an option to unlock no charging capacity only when the phone is unlocked

__Blank__ Many thanks, unfortunately this did not solve the issue :-(
I changed USB-C port from "charging only when locked" to "On" (for the sake of the test), but still nothing.
For my understanding, and to make sure I didn't miss anything, error states:

Could not access device. Make sure it is unlocked, and tap "Allow" on the popup on its screen. If that does not work, make sure MTP is enabled in its USB connection settings.

My phone never showed any pop up. Is it normal?
Also, do you know what MTP is and if indeed I need to enable it?

gaufffke there might be a silent notification on your phone you have to tap to get to the usb connection settings

Maybe try this. I have to do it every time I connect to a laptop.
Connect your Phone to your laptop. On your Phone, if you swipe down from the top to display notifications, it should say charging the device via USB. Tap on it. It should take you to USB settings. Change it to USB file transfer. Now on your computer a notification should pop up saying a device was connected. Hope this works for you.
