If this was a campaign, I'd find it also an absolute waste of resources. Resources that could better be used
- to improve security tools instead of discrediting them
- to protect the people who want to keep their basic rights against attacks from those entities who deny these rights.
[Semi-Offtopic Reminder:]
Let us remember that these rights, as documented in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR, s. https://www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights ), comprise essentials like
- right to life, liberty and the security of person (UHDR Article 3)
- protection of the law against arbitrary interference with privacy, family, home or correspondence (UHDR Article 12)
- freedom of opinion and expression (UHDR Article 19)
- seeking, receiving information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers (ditto).
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which is one of 9 binding treaties that detail above human rights, was signed by 174 parties (s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Covenant_on_Civil_and_Political_Rights#Parties_to_the_Covenant ). Let's remind those parties. Let's also facilitate that these treaties are respected.
Admittedly, it's often easier to let go of the complexities and complications of modern society and fall back to raw violence. Getting what you want because you can without the other's consent can be really tempting, for criminals and power-abusing officials all alike.
However, If we really want to uphold civilisation, culture, we have to put real effort into leaving that dark past behind.
