Anyway to have working notifications without Google play?

Notifications are really the only Google play dependant feature that I strongly miss. Is there anyway to get working notifications for apps like telegram protonmail ect without having to install Google play services?

Flyingrocks2736 same here! I miss notifications also! I can help you with Proton mail. Download the app, 'You Have Mail' from F Droid. Sign into your Proton account and choose at what time intervals you want it to check for mail (5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc.) After you've set it up, long press it and go to app info and turn on notifications. Now you will get notifications from Proton Mail. As for all the other apps, I have the exact same question as you. :)

Best solution is choosing apps which don't rely on Google for their notifications, like Molly (Signal) for messaging and FairEmail for email.

Apps that pull notifications will also work, which are sometimes available for apps like email clients and RSS readers. You can set the interval for how often it will pull, such as every 15 minutes etc

I'm using https://github.com/Forkgram/TelegramAndroid without play services with notifications working.

Not really familiar with protonmail, but as an alternative tuta works without play services aswell.
