Finally made the plunge and am using my Graphene phone as my main phone, I was able to get Android Auto installed, and enable the developer mode to get more apps to show up, but I'm not able to Here We Go to show up as a map app. I'm not sure if there are any non-Google mapping apps that are recommended that work well with Graphene and Android Auto
