Hello everyone,
I am an iPhone user for now, and I’ve long wanted a more privacy friendly solution for my mobile device in which I can be more confident in its security, and in my control as a user.
From my understanding, iPhones are already slightly better than the regular android in this regard, but to what extent I wouldn’t know—I doubt it’s significant enough. Not to mention, there are countless other reasons why I want to steer away from Apple.
GrapheneOS became the most obvious choice, and I think the latest Google Pixels have excellent hardware.
However, since I’m not going to do this on the short term (I estimate it’ll be 1-2 years from now), I’ve found some concerns about GrapheneOS.
Most notably is that Google has announced they’ll essentially make it much more difficult to modify the Android system starting from version 16, if I’m not mistaken. There have been a few mentions that GrapheneOS is considering making their own hardware, but it’s far from officialised.
My question is this. If I were to buy a Pixel 9 (or newest at the time) 1-2 years from now, would the odds of GrapheneOS still existing with support and updates be high? Or would it perhaps be smarter to wait for any announcements from GrapheneOS making their own hardware?
There’s also a big chance I’ve misinterpreted this whole ordeal, so please correct me if that’s been the case.
To whoever is taking the time out of their day to read, and respond to this, you have my thanks!
