Vanadium keeps accessing photos and videos

Hi guys,

Just wondering if this is normal: I noticed that on the permission page for the Vanadium app, it says that Vanadium has accessed photos/videos in the last 24 hours. However I did not use vanadium to access photos/videos.

Furthermore these accesses are not shown in the privacy dashboard timeline for photos/videos...

Is this expected behavior for vanadium?

For more information, initially I thought I must've remembered wrong. But I waited for another two days and it still says that vanadium has accessed photos and videos within last 24 hours.

So it appears that vanadium is constantly accessing photos / videos....

JustAB why not just remove its photos and videos permission?

other8026 I would like to see if this is expected or there's a malware.

JustAB I just tried on my old phone in a profile where Vanadium has never had that permission. I did the following:

Checked if Vanadium had used photos and videos recently. It hadn't.
Granted the permission.
Launched the app and opened a webpage.
Checked if Vanadium had accessed photos and videos. It doesn't show up in the timeline, but when I view apps with the permission, there's some text saying Vanadium had accessed it within the past 24 hours.

If I'm getting that too, then it's very unlikely to be malware.

Weird, can you link to a screenshot of both Vanadium permissions as well the privacy dashboard. I assume photos and videos were accessed even after removing permission?

Titan_M2 right now on my phone so difficult to attach screenshots.
But basically on privacy dashboard the timeline view for photos and videos, only accesses done by Google photos are shown, while in the permission page for vanadium it says photos and videos accessed in last 24 hours.

I confirm that after removing the permission vanadium no longer accesses photos and videos, but as soon as I switch the permission back to "allow selected" it appears vanadium attempts to access it.

other8026 thanks for trying that out! Yep I got basically the same thing when switching back to allow selected photos which is weird
