Can't back up my Pixel 6a to a flash drive?

I've been able to back up my Pixel 6a to a flash drive a couple of times now. But after updating to Android 16, it gets halfway through backing up, then my VPN disconnects , and it says Backup not complete. Using mobile data? Connect to WiFi and try again. Usually it backed up fine over mobile data. But I connected to WiFi and the same thing happened. So I completely disabled my VPN, but it still didn't work. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks

nandohyphen1 I think I recall that if you exclude the VPN app from the apps to be backed up by SeedVault then the VPN app won't choke during the backup.

No excluding my VPN from the app list didn't work. Any other ideas? :)
