Garmin Connect on Android16

Hi everyone and first of all: Thanks for all the great work! This is my first post/issue after 3 months of using GOS, so that's a good sign I'd say :)

Problem: Since the GOS update to Android 16, the Garmin Connect app in the work profile crashes after launch. The app runs initially - I can enter my login credentials, but the crashes only start occurring after that point. Error message as follows:

I've done some testing and can report the following so far:

Garmin Connect runs without issues in the Personal Profile
Garmin Connect only exhibits problems in the Work Profile, and specifically after login
I currently suspect issues related to Google Health Connect, as the app only crashes post-login when it attempts to access my data or asks for that permisson. I believe no data queries occur before login, which is why the app doesn't encounter the error at that stage
Further evidence: In the permission settings for the Garmin app within the Work Profile, clicking on "Health, fitness and wellness" has no effect. The screen simply refreshes but doesn't display the permission settings. This works fine in the Personal Profile, where I can view and configure all settings in the upcomming dialog.

spicewiesel I just had the chance to test this on a Pixel7 witch Stock-Android16 and there it's the same issue. Ther "healt, fitness and wellness" permission dialog won't open in the work profile's app and the app is crashing instantly. So I guess it's up to AOSP to fix it?

I synced with only three permissions, (notif, network, nearby devices.)
It is in my main profile and
i have No duplicate apps in other profiles, and everything worked fine as far as i can tell.

Maybe try turning on Exploit Protection Compatibility Mode? You can find it by long pressing the Connect app -> app info -> first option under the Exploit Protection header.

Hello everyone. I can confirm the error. I have the exact same error message. I use Garmin with a work profile and never had any problems until recently. It might have been the update to Android 16, but I'm not sure. I'm using it on a Pixel 8a. Unfortunately, toggling the Exploit Protection didn't help.

Same issue here, i think its related to the healt connect / the permission of health, fitness and wellness that is non existant in the private space

Yes, that's my guess, too, as the same happens on Stock Android on Pixel7. I guess they do not support the health stuff in work profiles but where too lazy to implement any error handling as it crashes without and information. Would be another situation if there would be a "not supported on Work profile" or whatever message for the users.

Hi guys, maybe workaround will help you too. I installed version 15.3.1 in private space via Aurora store. App works again without crashing. You need to enter 9829 as version number.

I am using Pixel 6a.

same for me, the Garmin Connect update fixed the crashes. Permission management for health-stuff still broken in work profile but thahttps://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/23944-garmin-connect-on-android16t might me a general issue and no longer causes the Garmin app to crash. Thanks all!
