Font size/Display size settings do not persist over restarts

Whenever phone restarts the Display > Display size and text > Font size/Display size (sliders) always revert to a default that is different from what I set manually. This also occurs upon restart after I press "Reset settings" at bottom of that settings page. For ex if I set both sliders to the middle notch, upon restart the Display size marker is all the way to the right--however, strangely, everything in UI actually appears extremely tiny.

This is unpredictable, as sometimes after restart the slider locations and associated UI remain as set.

Additionally, (after restarting a few times to observe this process) my home screen icons and widgets have become re-arranged, with the widgets in tiniest size, and everything in a different location on the screen, with app grid apparently having changed too. OK, this I fixed by simply resizing the widgets , moving the icons back to previous positions, and changing app grid back to how it was before.

Also, if possibly related: I notice that during restarting, the GOS logo appears normally, white on black screen, but then suddenly for a few seconds appears in a black rectangle at upper left of screen on top of my lock screen wallpaper, before logo disappears and lock screen fully appears. I do not recall this to be part of the usual GOS restart visuals.

All the above suddenly began just a few days ago.

Hi all,
Still hoping to hear whether anyone else has experienced the issue described. Also, I wanted to add that since originally making the post, Ive noticed that:

whereas restarting produces a UI with very small UI elements, beginning with small dial pad for entry of user pw, and then also small homescreen icons, small UI text in settings and apps, and all this while the "Display Size" slider position is all the way to the right...

... if I press the side button to turn screen off and lock screen, and then immediately unlock it again, everything is back to normal, with the size of everything matching the slider position -- which is suddenly no longer all the way to right, but as desired, how Id previously set it, in the middle.

Anybody else experience this??
Any suggestions as to what might be the cause?

I was experiencing the same issue regarding my font and display size changing after restarting my phone, but after reading your post.. I tried lock screen then unlock it again, surprisingly it worked and everything went back to normal.

Great to hear you are relieved to read of my “solution” in my post. For me the problem still continues to persist though & still wondering if there is a true solution & what is causing it.

An update to this for me is that I discovered that when I booted into safe mode, the problem went completely away. Only while in safe mode though–it returns when I start phone again normally.

So I tried uninstalling some apps to see if one or another of them, or some combo, was the problem, but Ive got a lot of apps and havent gotten to try all, and for some I am reluctant to completely uninstall w/out make sure I dont lose any settings, data, etc, but if I find a culprit, I shall post again.

Also, I am wondering if you are also seeing the strange visual glitch upon booting up that I described in original post? Again, at the very end of the boot screen, after “Google” and then “GrapheneOS” in center, just before my lock screen appears, I momentarily see a smaller version of the “GrapheneOS” logo screen (which normally takes up the entire screen) but it is smaller and to the upper left, with my wallpaper background appearing in remaining space (along the right and bottom edges of screen), then the wallpaper flickers a few time; only then does my lock screen actually appear. (this glitch goes away too when i boot into safe mode btw.)
