Waterfly III can't connect to server due to "cronet providers unavailable" error

Hello everyone,
I'm having this problem with waterfly III, a companion app for Firefly III, a self hosted personal finance manager.
When I try to connect to my instance of FFIII, it returns the error that you can see in the pictures linked below.

I have no idea how to solve this (or even if it's possible).

Can anyone help?

danixland Maybe try enabling "Dynamic code loading" for the app in App info? That would reduce security, but it might be instructive.

on my phone, that option is enabled by default and it didn't change the error.

I solved by installing the app from github releases instead of the google play store via aurora store.

danixland Thanks for reporting back with a solution! This may be useful to others later. Meanwhile, you might want to report your experience to the app's developers. Used Pixel 6a devices are pretty cheap right now, and flashing GrapheneOS is safe and pretty easy, so, who knows, with polite encouragement they might include GrapheneOS among their testing platforms.
