Grapi Prior to Android 16, the Pixel 9a was on a device branch based on Android 15 QPR1 for the stock Pixel OS, AOSP and GrapheneOS. Android 15 QPR2 was from March 2025. They backported security patches to Android 15 QPR1 from Android 15 QPR2. We applied our changes from prior to Android 15 QPR2 to the device branch, then backported some of our own changes. It was a weird frankenstein port of GrapheneOS with some old issues from Android 15 QPR1. It was also infeasible to backport all of the Pixel security patches from Android 16 as we did for the other devices to it. Therefore, the standard for shipping Android 16 to it as a Stable channel release was lower and we did it despite a couple remaining issues we wanted to fix before doing it for the other devices. There was no rush for the other devices since the security patches for June and July were completed a while ago. July had no new Android Security Bulletin or Pixel Update Bulletin patches, which we partially knew in advance for the ASB since we currently have a way to get early access.
