How to get termux to work in non-owner profiles?

I wanted to use some cli apps so I installed termux no problem but when i try to run it I get an error saying it has to be run on an owner profile which doesn't really work for my use case. I tried reterminal and wasn't able to figure out how to access shared storage so unless its possible that won't work. I then tried enabling the experimental terminal option in settings but when i tried to run it it kept crashing.
Is anyone aware of a terminal app I can run that would allow me to access my home directories kind of like "termux-setup-storage" does for termux?

Last time I used termux it didn't work in any profile except the owner profile. I suppose you already know this but just in-case, you now have the terminal app that comes bundled with the OS (enable it via dev options) and you can download a debian vm and use it. This is all 1st class citizen btw (part of the default OS installation) and not 3rd party app/service. However the only downside is, AFAIK, it only supports mounting the Downloads directory inside the VM so only that can be shared with it. If happy with that limitation, you should be able to (mostly?) do anything that can be done in an ARM-debian.

Terminal (virtual machine management app): disable VM console feature since it isn't supported by the stable release of Android 16 outside of debug builds and trying to use it breaks installing the new images (the feature can be enabled once the core OS supports it in production builds)

monozygote Last I used, the terminal app would get optimized away aggressively no matter what you do, and would get its storage corrupted asking you to wipe it clean. Requiring you to redownload the image.. overall in its current state, it is a very disappointing experience.

So it seems Termux is a bad idea in general. I have looked at vmconsole but asides from it looking like it is a VM that would not allow me to access the filesystem - it also appears that it hasn't had any activity since 2024. I took a look at ConnectBot and it still seems to be active but is not exactly a terminal per se but it appears that it can ssh between profiles which I think would allow me to do what i need (run scripts using yt-dlp as i can't find any yt-dlp options that would let me do all the things i want); caveat is i can't figure out how to connect to another profile via connectbot? I tried installing a sshd but nada. Hopefully there is another way to get shell access on non-owner accounts that has access to the ~/ dir? I'd easily settle for just being able to ssh into a non-owner profile say from my desktop but still can't figure out how to setup sshd? Suggestions would be appreciated!!
