What was the motivation behind GrapheneOS project?

Just curious how did GrapheneOS born and why.

In my mind I try to picture that big tech crossed the line when it comes to invasion on user data but then think that GOS focuses on security more, rather than privacy

Why ? It's kind of like asking why features like HTTPS have been deployed, because security and privacy are important, they're under attack and good people are out there to make things better.

The intention was to use the company to build a business around GrapheneOS selling support, contract work and customized proprietary variants of the OS.
