Google accounts not syncing

I am having trouble connecting my apps to my google account.

Eg. WhatsApp can't see my Google account.

Google contacts can see it, but doesnt see the thousands of contacts in it so won't import to phone.

Google play and services installed fine.

Playstore connecting to google account fine

Account also shows in settings but doesn't have option to sync contacts

Pls advise solution

I may be wrong, but you may need to enable some settings under play services for allowing access. WhatsApp being a 3rd party app to Google may use different access.

somehow the the settings under account later changed themselves and were syncing 'contacts'. not sure why it suddenly started working.
