GrapheneOS migration doubts

I'm seriously considering buying a Pixel 9, as they'll likely drop the price a bit with the upcoming release of the Pixel 10.
I have some newbie questions about GrapheneOS.

What happens if I need to install an app like WhatsApp, a VPN client, or the like?
Will this cause security holes and make the system less secure?

I'm sorry if these questions are obvious or seem silly; I have no experience with GrapheneOS. Thank you very much,

Romothil Go for it buddy.... you will find that almost everything is usable, and where there are issues the devs are very proactive in tackling them.
You don't have to dive in headfirst, it's possible to start out with very few changes from stock android, eg use play services and play store etc, and gradually adjust how you use your device to a more privacy / security focused set up.
It can be about taking small steps towards a better outcome, rather than a gigantic all in one change.

Thank you so much for your kindness and help. I know changes are hard at first, especially when you're used to something, but I want to give it a try.
My only concern is that I'll still need some apps like a VPN client, WhatsApp, a gambling app, and similar things.
If this could compromise the overall security or integrity of GrapheneOS, making the switch could be counterproductive.

BaronAfanas Actually, contrary to some popular beliefs online in the "privacy community" the people on the GOS forum and the devs are very helpful and friendly! Feel free to ask questions but please check the FAQ and do a quick search on this forum, most questions have already been answered. Now, go buy a Pixel and never look back.

I think I'll wait a little longer for the price drops as the Pixel 10 launches closer. I'm almost certain they'll lower the prices of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro even further at that point.
