Hes now degoogling after his trips in Linux land, and decided to use GOS as his Android platform.

yup watching the video right now, very cool
I'm glad both linux and GOS are getting covered by him.
hate him or love him. he has a big audience and having more users on both linux and GOS is always a win in my book

Is this the year of GrapheneOS?

DirtyDan

me looking around at users on here trying to figure out who's secretly PewDiePie.

In all seriousness, welcome Felix and all potential new users. This could be a blessing to spur new public interest (and donations!) at this pivotal moment now that Google recently made developing GrapheneOS for Pixels substantially harder.

For anyone new to GrapheneOS, please read the FAQ and be respectful and courteous to others on here and to the developers. We may have our differences, but we all have a shared interest in the success of this OS and it's best to remember that. :)

DirtyDan me looking around at users on here trying to figure out who's secretly PewDiePie.

It is me. I've been PewDiePie this whole time.

Hymix

I wonder if new users are the reason why I've been waiting 15-20 minutes to download a release for my new 8A and the bar hasn't moved at all yet.

N1b

Nice and very decent video. Probably will boost GOS a lot if he's not dropping it while making false claims like other YouTubers did before.

Let's hope this also gets GOS a lot of donations.

Xtreix

The video is good and he's clearly happy with the choices he's made, this will surely give GOS more visibility given its large viewer base. What he's doing with his Steam Deck is cool.

DeletedUser313

I thought he was just doing it for the clout but it seems as though he actually believes in it and isn't making things up for his viewers. I'm not sure why he needs to pay 60 dollars to use password managers though, mine has always been free

oci3o

matchboxbananasynergy Now we know your Felix, who is Swiftonsecurity? is Taylor Swift really an infosec expert?

oci3o

N1b No he seems to have done his research, I watched that bit specifically (dont normally watch Felix, but his degoogle / linux stuff I did).
I was expecting him to go I tried all this but it didn't work, but props to him, he took a realistic approach to it, worked through the issues he had, and stuck with it, so fair play.

oci3o

Xtreix I liked his approach, it was very planned, hes looking to degoogle but understands full degoogle isnt really a thing, but he made smart choices

oci3o

DeletedUser313 Was possibly 1Password Family plan, likely did whats the best password manager into google and went with them.
They are quite expensive compared to Bitwarden or Keepass, heck Proton pass is like £30 a year I think, unless you get the Proton unlimited plan.
Bitwarden is still the cheapest when cost plays a part in the choice.

Panda-na

The video already has 2.2 million views, and he uses a substantial amount of time in the video to explain GrapheneOS, so this is really good! Also looks like he did his research, which is always a good sign. He has 110 million subscribers, so it can potentially reach a huge amount of new people 😃

DeletedUser370

I like this guy. It's not correct that the feature for stopping apps with unrestricted battery usage from running is exclusive to GrapheneOS though; it's an Android feature. But a fun video to watch. I can tell why his channel is popular.

oci3o is Taylor Swift really an infosec expert?

No, because Taylor Swift is me!

(Just kidding. I'm actually a security key).

zOr11

That is super cool, he has lot's of subs and I hope that this will motivate more people to stop being so dependent on this Big Tech Companies and think more about privacy, and also security since GOS is focused on security too

brook

That's great news for GrapheneOS. I mean, one can like or dislike PewDiePie as a person, but the fact, that almost normal-human celebrity not only advertises GrapheneOS sincerely and for free, but actually USES it and LOVES it, is simply great.

Thanks to all involved in the GrapheneOS development!

I really hope this OS will be with us for a long time, it's a great option compared to LineageOS or other AOSP forks.

I also hope such popularity jumps would lead to making GrapheneOS a solid alternative to AOSP+Google stuff and Samsung/Xiaomi/Sony/Huawei bloatware among less tech-savvy people.

DeletedUser313

Panda-na brook And the way he explains it is sincere and not intentionally misleading which is more than expected of a youtuber

chinook

Wow, that's refreshing. My opinion of him (based on a few of his videos) was rather really bad, but credit has to be given when it's due. I'll watch and comment to bump his engagement with the video (more chances it will get recommended)

Rand-Uzer

oci3o full degoogle isnt really a thing, but he made smart choices
I just watched Felix's video and ...
Yes it really is a "thing" ... I have never used GMail, a Google account, chrome or really any google logged in app/account. I've been on the net since Win95 was first released, always used pseudonyms, found NO need to ever use any logged in google account "free service" ... The only google products I use are the Pixel with GOS.
and ...
I watch quite a lot of You Tube on a Firefox fork, with it's own little sandbox with Firefox Multi-containers, the container addon 100% works as I can have 2 separate YT containers on the one browser [I actually use multiple firefox forks all with FF Multi-containers] and you tube gives me different suggestions pertinent to each container viewing habits with no crossover, NO account as I see zero need to comment with trolls, know all know nothings and AH's, in fact I get a fantastic YT experience getting suggestions for videos on topics I am interested in and a separate container for music I like, all that is needed is not clearing the cookies, and of course UBlock Origin.
I too use a stand alone GPS Navigator just like Felix says he does, works fine.
For me the Pixel with GOS is overkill as a dumb phone is really all I need as I am not interested in watching vids or playing games etc on a tiny child sized screen like all phones have, I'm to old for tiny nonsense screens.

So YES you can have a life with ZERO google "services" all that is needed is the will and to be not lazy about it. I don't believe my life is any more difficult with ZERO google in my life. I am NO one's product thank you very much.
