I'm experiencing poor microphone performance during phone calls on a Pixel 8a running GrapheneOS. Callers report that my voice sounds clipped or muted, especially at the ends of words. The issue seems limited to phone calls. The microphone works better in other apps specifically Google Camera and a little worse on voice recorders. When I use loudspeaker mode callers reported that audio quality is far greater and I sound louder.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
- Cleaned the bottom microphone with compressed air. To remove any dust or debris potentially blocking the mic.
- Cleared cache and storage of the default Phone app.
- Installed and tested with the Google Phone app. To rule out issues with the default dialer app.
- Restarted the phone.
- Tested phone calls using a different user profile. To determine if the issue was profile-specific.
- Confirmed both microphones work in the Google Camera app (for some reason I get the best performance in this app).
- Tested the issue without a phone case. Ensured that there was no physical obstruction blocking the microphone.
Despite these troubleshooting steps, the issue persists, and I'm unable to resolve it on my own. If anyone has encountered a similar problem or has suggestions for additional troubleshooting, I would greatly appreciate any help and advice.
Thanks in advance for your support!
