Google Pixel 8 Pro with GrapheneOS limitations?

Hi all,

I'm currently using a Pixel 8 Pro, and I’m looking for a custom ROM setup that allows the following:

✅ Built-in call recording (third-party apps or hacks are fine if passing safetynet native or w/ mods)

✅ Google Pay / NFC Tap-to-Pay to work native or w/ mods

✅ Banking apps like [insert your preferred apps, e.g., Chase, Capital One, etc.] native or w/ mods

❌ Preferably no root unless absolutely necessary but without breaking the aboves

I’m currently considering:

LineageOS (but I don't know if it doesn’t pass SafetyNet without root?)

GrapheneOS (great for security, but I read Google Wallet doesn’t work?)

Maybe a Lineage-based fork like crDroid or PixelExperience Plus?

Would love your input on:

Which ROMs work well with or without root

Whether Play Integrity / SafetyNet can be passed reliably

If anyone actually has Pixel 8 Pro + working Google Pay + banking apps +- call recording

Hollywood google wallet won't work for any operating system but stock, grapheneOS isn't a custom ROM, I would suggest reading the sites docs...

There's no way to use google pay if you want to run any OS but what comes on Stock.

Good. Rooting your device is not advised. Root isn't supported on GrapheneOS. If you root the device, it's not GrapheneOS and we cannot provide support.

I think you mean Play Integrity. None of those will get a MEETS_STRONG_INTEGRITY verdict.

Everything works except google pay. GOS has call recording in the phone app.
Google wallet does work, but not pay. If you really want gpay on non-stock, you gotta have root, and even then it's really hard to do afaik.

IMHO, just forget about gpay. I have a cnick payment ring that works through fidesmo. Way cooler and simpler than gpay anyway.

EDIT: My banking apps all run, even revolut. Your mileage may vary.

Thank you all for the kind and detailed replies! I think then for me it's best to stick with stock experience and root + configure the loads of patches and fixes, since I really want to pass safetynet & use banking apps without issues. I'm open to other feedback!

If you want something like Google Pay you can get Curve and use their Curve Pay.

I have a P8 pro with GOS. Banking app works without issue and I use a smart watch with Gpay for when I need it

Works well for me, might not be what you are looking for
