Also, retailers usually don't keep the devices around long enough for that to even matter. Their goal is to get devices out fast and then order new ones, if they sell well. If stuff is sitting in storage for a long time, its bad for business, because it takes up storage space and therefore costs money. Retailers usually even sell old stuff with a profit loss, just so they can get rid of it.
