The dating app Chyrpe now blocks logins if your device can't pass Google's Play Integrity API (used via Firebase App Check). I previously used the app without issues, since a while, I get:
"Error: An internal error has occurred. [Firebase App Check token is invalid.]"
Support told me this:
From the error you’ve described, it sounds like the app is unable to pass Google’s verification check, which can cause login failures and prevent content like matches and chats from loading. This is usually related to issues with Google Play Services or device restrictions.
Please check the following:
• Google Play Services is fully up to date
• Google Play Store is updated
• You’re using the official version of Chyrpe from the Play Store
• Your device is not rooted or using a custom ROM
• No battery/data-saving settings are interfering (especially on typical Android phones, energy saving mode is often the cause)
As far as I understand, this is due to Google's verification check failing, which makes sense, this is a known issue, right?
Regardless of all that, this means:
- I can’t log into my account anymore
-
- I can’t delete it either (which could be a GDPR issue)
-
- Even older versions of the app likely won’t work, since the check is server-side
Any tips on what I could do? If anyone’s encountered a workaround (like sandboxed Play working for this specific app), I’d love to know. Otherwise, beware if you’re relying on the app.
