Not receiving notifications from proton mail, patreon, and others

Google play store and google play services are installed and have network permission
I clicked sign in on google play store but did not actually sign in
Proton mail app has network, notifications, contacts permission
Previously received notifications from proton and patreon (and others)
Apps were downloaded on Aurora and are up to date
Now not receiving any notifications at all
How do I trouble shoot this?

I have created an anonymous account for google and signed into play store / play services and allowed them to run in the background.

I am still not getting notifications from proton, signal, patreon, etc

I appreciate any help.

A2755 Play services should have the Unrestricted battery mode enabled.

A2755 An account is not required for notifications. The main basic functionality requiring it is installing apps via the Play Store.

I can confirm that play services has unrestricted battery mode enabled and the issue remains ongoing.
The apps where the issue is most prevalent also have unrestricted battery mode enabled as well.

Is ProtonMail still syncing messages in the background or are you having to manually sync mail?

Have you double checked your notification settings for the ProtonMail app?

When I open the proton mail app the new emails are waiting there without me manually refreshing
Notifications are on and I am currently receiving "0 notifications per week"

Where should I reinstall them from now?

You mentioned that signing into / creating an account for google play store is not necessary.
Should I use aurora?

A2755 We recommend sandboxed Play Store over Aurora Store for most purposes but you don't have to use it for things like push notifications to work.

An aggressive anti-tracking setting with a VPN app or blocklist with an Adblocking app or PiHole for example can cause domains related to Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to be blocked. I know The "Pro" tier and higher versions of the Hagezi blocklists will cause such FCM notification issues...

There's a note for that block list which states:

Does not block error trackers such as Bugsnag, Crashlytics, Firebase, Instabug, Sentry, ... and other app-specific crash trackers. These are only blocked from the Pro version onwards.
