Google Maps keeps suddenly failing to load tiles until app storage is cleared

On my Pixel 9 Pro running build 2025052800, I've had this problem happen twice. Google Maps will be working normally but then, all the sudden, I'll hop in the car one day and none of the tiles load (except sometimes satellite view, but usually without road names). A reboot does not fix it, nor does a force quit or clearing cache. During this time, the app does seem to be able to access the internet and location seems to be working (e.g., when it happened most recently, I could pan around and watch tiles load / see my location in satellite view, but no tiles would load in the default view, and street names were all missing in the satellite view).
However, clearing all app data does appear to fix it, at least for a while.

Google Maps is version version 25.21.01.760306150.

Is anyone else having this issue or have any good suggestions for troubleshooting?

Yes, I have the same issue. Started happening a couple of days ago. Clearing the app storage did solve it for now.

I have exactly the same issue. Somehow I failed to find this thread before I started my own.

Clearing all app data fixes it, but only for a while, the problem always comes back again. The only fix I found is to instead log in and then switch to anonymous mode. In that mode the issue didn't appear so far. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to turn on anonymous mode without logging in.

I had the issue as well. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it has been working so far. Clearing cache worked temporarily. Hopefully this is durable...

I had the same issue. Previously I had this a year ago and the fix was to update the app. However that wasn't the issue this time.

I tried force closing + clearing the cache but that only worked temporarily.

I fixed it by clearing the storage for the app and it started working again. Hasn't come back so far. I use the app in a workprofile without a google account attached to google play services (work profile).

Hi all

I have the same issue (Pixel 9). Map tiles do not work, but the rest of the app seems to work properly. For example, you can plan a route and have it drawn (over a blank map).

It happened to me first time on 29 or 30 July 2025.
Rebooting the phone or clearing the app cache didn't help. I stayed like that for a couple of days to see if it would fix in its own, but it didn't.
Finally, doing a full app "Clear storage" works (which deletes all app's data, which I guess it's equivalent to uninstalling the app and re-installing it).

After that, Google Maps was working OK again for around one week, but the issue has now started occurring again.

I found in Reddit another person complaining with similar symptoms around the same time. This person says that has a Pixel 6, but doesn't mention GrapheneOS: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleMaps/comments/1kxeta5/wth_is_happening/

My current Google Maps is version version 25.22.00.763125252 and I'm using GraphneOS 2025060200 in a Pixel 9 128 GB

This has just happened to me for a third time. Once again, deleting all the storage for the app resolved it. It looks like we should just expect to do this periodically for the time being, based on my experiences so far.

Okay, but reinstall the app doesn't help. And its the same as "Delete all the data from the app", right?

This happened again today, so it looks like it lasts about a week for my use case.

I'm going to try to disable the exploit protection stuff. Maybe it's corrupting something?

I've disabled all the exploit protection features on Google Maps, to see if that fixes it. I guess I'll know in a week or two if it seems to be helping.

My theory is that maybe it's corrupting some data in memory due to the secure allocator (or similar) and that is in turn getting written out to the application data.
