WeChat issues (unable to use Wechat)

Hey, I'm trying to sign up for WeChat. So far I managed to get past all steps but the last one. After inserting my birthday and birth year I get an ominous "unusual network or device environment" message.

I have a VPN enabled but I also tried to disable it for this step but the issue still persists.

Do any other GrapheneOS users experience this? Do I need google play services installed for WeChat to work?

I thought about creating that account on a stock Android device. Question is am I going to be able to log in with my GrapheneOS phone afterwards?

I'd be good if someone who uses WeChat could confirm if it works on GrapheneOS.

I'm using WeChat right now on my 6a with Google Play (pretty sure that is required). Everything works fine. Also think that Exploit Protection Mode needs to be enabled.

I've been using WeChat on GrapheneOS for a little bit over 2 years since I migrated to GOS. I do have an existing WeChat account though so I don't know why the sign-up not working for you. Perhaps you do need to install Google Play Services?

It has been working on my Pixel 7 without issues, and I have issues with my Pixel 8 Pro in that it is not playing the videos from the mini video channels as well as not running the mini programs. Other than that, it's been working fine.

I have a Wechat account in my Graphene Pixel Phone, but I didn't experience the case you mentioned. You may try to register a new account in stock OS/ iPhone, and then login your new account in your Graphene OS Pixel.
