Signal doesn't want to use location services

I have Signal installed on my Google Pixel tablet. Whatever I do, I cannot make the app use the location services. Everything is turned on. If I put the permissions to 'ask every time', Signal never asks for permissions.
Other apps like Google Maps are able to use my GPS location.
I also have a Google Pixel phone (9a) which also has GrapheneOS. There Signal does access the location services.
There is a difference in settings on both phones though.
On the tablet I see:
Location services (which contain: Wi-Fi scanning: on, Bluetooth scanning: on, Network location: GrapheneOS proxy)
On the phone I see:
Location services (which contain: Wi-Fi scanning: on, Bluetooth scanning: on, Network location: GrapheneOS proxy)
Secure User Plane Location (SUPL): GrapheneOS proxy
Predicted Satellite Data Service (PSDS): GrapheneOS proxy

Is it because I am missing the last to items on the table that it does not work?

Joking aside, unfortunately I don't have the direct answer to your problem, however, have you tried the foss-version of Molly a hardened security version of signal?

It doesn't require google play services to operate, and its location sharing feature utilises OpenStreetMap, which is a offline version of google maps (note not a fork Gmaps).

The problem is I'm traveling and my SIM card doesn't work here. So I can't try Molly. I'll try it after I'm back home.
For now I guess I have to use my tablet.
