What is best on MacOS ProtonMail App or Apple Mail App with PM account linked

I understand this is off-topic for the forum, however, I can't find reliable information from other sources, that answer my question.

I'm a proton user and happy, however, I still use MacOS. As the title notes, am I best to use the ProtonMail app or stick with the Apple Mail provided app and have my proton account linked?

I have read the Beerisgood GitHub and that is very useful but it doesn't seem talk much about third-party mail apps and the best practice (although I might be wrong).

You may already know this, but the Proton Bridge for Apple Mail is a for paid customers only. From past discussions on other platforms, many prefer using the PWA version in Safari. Perhaps it's worth at least looking into for you.

Best in terms of what? To use another mail client with Proton you'll need to install some kind of bridge client anyway so there will be Proton software installed in both cases.

When I was on MacOS, I used to access Proton Mail on Brave with Little snitch blocking all telemetry and connections to apple servers (other than updates) so much of the apple apps either didn't work or worked with limited functionality.

It depends what your are trying to achieve.

I'm looking to see which desktop application is more secure for use on MacOS.

I also used little snitch and set the network permission as you noted. However I have since removed little snitch, instead blocking all incoming connections via the system firewall and the setting up a nextdns filter on the machine.

To the question at hand, I understand the suite of protons apps are sandboxed in MacOS but is this enough from a security perspective?

Yes, I did utilise the bridge prior to the official app being released. It's just handy to have access to emails in offline situations.
