Can GrapheneOS be installed on a potential fake pixel device?

Hey,
so long story short, Pixels are not officially sold in my country. We can get them through people only.
I recently purchased a Pixel 9 Pro XL and slapped grapheneOS on it. Everything works. couple days ago I recommended the seller to a friend of mine and he purchased a Pixel 9 Pro XL as well. Right after puchasing it he installed GrapheneOS via Web Installer. Everything was okay. Recently he started noticing some stuff such as not as good picture quality as mine, not as good speakers and microphone etc. He is thinking he might have purchased a fake counterfeit pixel device.
We did everything we could to validate its legit, but he wants to make sure.
What I ask you is, is it in any way possible to install GrapheneOS on a fake device? Because if not, then his device is authentic. Im guessing the GrapheneOS installer would NOT accept the device and install the appropriate GrapheneOS version on it if it was counterfeit.

it could be a ref with not original components: camera, speakers etc, but using original main board, i guess.
at least, there are plenty of cheapo iphone refs made like this but running real iOS.

I have never heard of a counterfeit Pixel device.
