Hello,
I'm new to GrapheneOS. It's very important for me to block access to some social media websites, which unfortunately have an ability to captivate me.
I was running LineageOS previously, where using IceCat with Leechblock installed was enough. I'm looking for a solution on GOS.
I stumbled upon this thread, suggesting to use a main profile locked behind a password which I wouldn't know, and setting up a blocklist through a custom DNS.
This has two main drawbacks:
- the need to have the password for the main profile anytime the phone reboots;
- relying on a DNS service: OpenDNS doesn't operate in my country, and I haven't found any other DNS provider where I could set up custom blocks, apart from Cloudflare (which I'm sure is not recommended here due to privacy concerns). I'm however not a power user, I've never had to browser through DNS providers before, so I might just be missing some options.
As an alternative, would apps like Freedom or Blocksite work on GOS ?
Are there any other options to enable blocking specific websites that I might not have considered? It should be hard enough to disable that I can't do it in 2 seconds whenever I feel the urge to browse a time-wasting website, but not be an hindrance for the day-to-day use of the phone.
For instance, on my PC, Leechblock is setup so that I have to type a 128 random character passphrase to access the block options. That is, in my experience, enough of a deterrent.
Thanks in advance for your help!
