Messages App Not Displaying Correct Contacts After Backup

So if you're following my string of posts, my last Pixel 8 Pro was kind of defective and too many functions were not working, which lead me to get a new one. This is the first time I'm using seedvault backups and I noticed on my messages app, when I search for a contact to text, it has the old conversation, however, the display contact at the top is incorrect for almost all of my conversations. Is there way to fix this problem? Searching the contact will lead me to the correct conversation, however, the display contact is incorrect despite that. Thanks in advance as always.

Some1Somewhere Well just as an update I fixed this issue and for anyone that's looking for the fix afterwards, I'm posting it.

Go into your settings -> apps -> messaging and on those settings you need to delete storage/cache from the system. When you boot messages afterwards all the text messages should spawn with the correct contacts.

@Some1Somewhere I had the same issue and the fix you provided worked.

This seems to a bug caused during message backup restore. It would be good when messaging cache and storage is cleared before backup is being restored.

Backuped from Pixel 6 and restored to Pixel 10Pro and I had the exact same issue: the display contact at the top is incorrect for almost all of my conversations in SMS/MMS application.

The fix worked just fine: settings -> applications -> SMS/MMS -> delete storage/cache

I had the problem described above and tried the solution described above. While it did solve the problem of my contacts being associated with the wrong SMS threads, it also seems like it had the side effect of erasing all images from all the text threads. I assume that was likely the "delete storage" portion, but I'm honestly not sure. I still have my seedvault backup (as well as my previous device, which I have not wiped yet). Is there any way to restore the images?

I tried restoring from seedvault again and selecting only "SMS test messages" to restore, but that didn't seem to work (and "SMS text messages" entry was shown as something like 400k, so that does suggest it's only the text portion of things). Obviously the images would technically be MMS messages, but I didn't see that explicitly referred to.
