PayPal "Tap-to-Pay" coming

Hi folks,

as we all know, GPay does not work for GrapheneOS. This has been the biggest gripe for me so far (apart of the very aggressive battery management).
But we have good news for anyone using PayPal!
Thanks to a verdict released by the european Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple had to open up their NFC interface for other payment providers. This encourages PayPal to finally release their Tap-to-Pay implementation, which will work for both, iPhones and Android phones, first coming to Germany and then probably moving on to other countries.

HansWorst7 Pity I don't have a GOS phone anymore as ',Digitales Bezahlen' didn't work properly anymore and I switched to iodeOS for my phone.

I wonder if they will implement play integrity and make is useless for non stock android?

BaronAfanas When you say "Digitales Bezahlen didn't work properly", are you refering to the payment apps made by Atruvia in Germany? It's just because I am having no issues. Or are you rather talking about "Mobiles Bezahlen" which is a different app.

Great to hear that. Curve so far does only work with "real" credit cards and British PayPal accounts.

This way we finally will be able to also use non-credit-cards for NFC pay. Though, I don't really like to support PayPal and hope for Wero to arrive some day with broad banking support and NFC in Germany 😅

manugraph Since you mentioned Wero, did you try to use the official Wero App on a GrapheneOS device? I could not send any money (though I could receive some) neither with nor without Google Play Services (Private Space) being installed.

I just tried today....but no, it still does not send any money.

manugraph Do you have any experience with Curve? I read the app reviews and they are hmm... either 5 star or 1 star, people complaining - account blocked, no support etc.

If they implement play integrity check now or later it won't work. It's not a reliable solution unless they do it properly with the GrapheneOS guide. I just placed a credit card inside the phone case and I have tap to pay now, simple.😀

W1zardK1ng This post made me smile, I wish I could do this, but I have too many credit cards that I use for different things to be able to just stick one in my case.

BaronAfanas It seems to rely on Play Services with Internet access, but not on an account. This ist at least the way it works fine for me in a separate profile.

andrej567 from my experience paying with credit card works flawlessly now. But I must also admit that a service contact last year took around 5 weeks to get an answer - after the first one had not received any response :D

So I think paying with it works properly as long as you don't need any support from them.
