Google Play auto updating has badly failed on my Pixel Tablet.
I had a problem with Proton Drive. Their helpdesk pointed to the fact I was using version 2.12 when in fact we are up to 2.19.
I've just gone into Google Play and discovered that it had 34 pending updates! This is horrifying. I don't know how long this has been like this and what risks I've been exposed to.
I've double-checked all settings. Everything is permissive for auto updates:
General > Network Preferences >
App download preferences > 'Over any network'
Auto-update apps > 'Auto-update apps at any time. Data charges may apply'
This tablet is used in the field. It uses wifi supplied by my phone's hotspot only. That access is intermittent, but there's been a lot of it - including 12+h stretches while stored, but still 'on', back at home.
There has been no indication of pending updates. Clearly, auto-updating has not worked.
I've set up the tablet using 'Owner' as a master account, running Play store and used to install all apps (network, location disabled), then apps 'pushed out' to other profiles (e.g. Entertainment has video and podcast apps, Office has Collabora and Proton suite, etc).
Something is wrong. It is possible that there is a setting somewhere that I haven't got turned on - its a sandboxed version of Play, after all. If its my ignorance, please educate me.
