So this evening I was researching privacy focused cellphone service on my Graphene device, which is not tied to my Facebook. It was connected to a VPN and I was using the built in privacy browser. A few hours later, I started seeing Facebook ads for that service on a separate device that was not on the VPN. Very concerned, I was trying to figure out how Facebook figured out how to serve me that ad?..... The only connection I can think of - since I am transitioning to privacy apps, for temp convenience, I have gmail on my grapheme device through thunderbird. I'm guessing by having my gmail connected to this device, they were able to tie my identity to the VPN IP address and then serve me the ad on my other devices not connected to the VPN. OR there was some sort of VPN leak? With sandboxing, I'm not sure how else they could have made the connection to my identity that I was looking at this service..... This is just goes to show how easy it is for big tech to identity who you are.
Was using proton vpn.
