I tried to move my WhatsApp chats from my old to my new device for nearly 2 hours, but nothing seems to work.
.
Specification
Pixel 7 (secondary profile) to Pixel 9 (private space)
Google Play Services installed on both devices in the same space as WhatsApp.
.
What I Tried
WhatsApp Transfer via QR Code
I enabled every permission WhatsApp requested (e.g., nearby devices and contacts on the new device). On the Pixel 7, the QR code scanner opened, but on the Pixel 9, no QR code appeared to scan, and I received an error after a while.
WhatsApp Transfer via Google Drive
I attempted an encrypted backup to Google Drive. It progressed to 100% and appeared to finish, but in the backup menu, WhatsApp still indicated that no backup had ever been performed to Google Drive—only a local backup. When I checked the Google Drive account, I found no file associated with WhatsApp.
Different tactics to maybe fix the issue
I cleared the cache and forced WhatsApp to stop, then repeated the steps above.
I also restarted my Pixel 7.
Both doesn't help.
Copying the Local Backup Folder
Since WhatsApp doesn’t create a cloud backup but appears to make a local backup, I copied the com.whatsapp
folder from the Pixel 7 to the Pixel 9 and placed it in the same location (Pixel 9 > Android > Media).
This also doesn't work.
