Limiting Whatsapp from my contacts

I finally have to install Whatsapp to communicate with an international business :(

I installed Whatsapp but it requires permission to see (steal) all my contact information.

I tried clearing all storage from my contacts...
I tried disabling my contacts

... even then - when i finally granted Whatsapp contact permissions - it STILL pulled in ALL my contacts - WHAT!?

Is there a way I can empty my contacts (other than deleting 1 at a time (there are hundreds) - or limit WhatsAPP from them?

Note: I only have a single admin profile on my P9P and don't really want to set one up JUST for Whatsapp (assuming it would even work in a alternative profile as it requires my 'phone' for validation).

Help or thoughts appreciated...

lcalamar You need to setup contact scopes and choose what contacts you want what's app too see

If you are really looking for a way to blow out all contacts - you have to clear app data of the Contacts Storage app, not the Contacts app.
And then - Contacts Scope as advised above.

Edit: This will clean your contacts from the phone's Contacts app, not WhatsApp! Make a backup just in case.

Oggyo If you grant WhatsApp (or any app) contact scopes, to this app it will look like it has access to all your contacts, but your contact list were empty. If then you grant it access to a contact, to this app it seems like this is the only contact in your list. There's no need and no benefit at all to deleting your contacts completely.

Yeah, I know how the Contacts scope works. Not new to Graphene :)
But it was not clear what the OP needs to "empty". I pointed out the proper way of deleting the phone Contacts app data.
