Can't download maps in Magic Earth.

any suggestions in how I can get Magic Earth to download maps? It works fine but I would prefer an off line capability.

Think when you downloads maps, you need to be on WiFi only

I tired wifi only but when I hit the button to download it just does nothing. I'm wondering if it's a storage setting but I can't find any storage settings that i can change.

dvdivx Maybe try reinstalling it. It should ask for the necessary permissions again.

I gave up. I even tried a different ROM and it still doesn't work so I think Magic Earth itself is broken.

Yeah, looks like an issue on their side. I used it a month ago and it worked fine. It even checks for updates and suggests map updates, but the download didn't happen.

Im trying OsmAnd and the download map functions work fine. So I will switch to that.

MagicEarth is very slow at downloading maps. For some of Western Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Switzerland) it took 3 hours..

Just made up a profile install magic earth and orbot, downloaded 2 maps 2.43gb took couple hours

Getting the same issue.

My setup:

In Private Space
Installed via play store + Play Services + GmsCompatConfig
With Exploit Protection Compatibility Mode set to "on"
Granted permissions: network, notifications, sensors

I tap to download an offline map and a Magic Earth notification appears for less than 1 second.
It almost immediately disappears, and there's no evidence of a download happening within the app or elsewhere.

Currently, it behaves exactly as described. Worked as expected at the end of February when I lastly used it.

You can try OrganicMaps, it works quite well on my Pixel 8 (including maps download)

Forgot to mention that I'm also using a VPN with killswitch.

It also worked fine for me around 2 months ago. It has to be with their download servers.

Yes, I tested it w/o VPN on two different WiFi networks - the same.
Today I decided to give it a try again - worked. Slow but works, and does not reject my download as before.
Seems like temp. issue.

P.S. just finished downloading 1 GB map, took 35-40 min. Was not possible yesterday even with a small map, e.g. Andora (5.19 MB).

Thanks so much for sharing!

I got around to testing, and determined that my use of Proton VPN was the issue.

Its unfortunate that Magic Earth can't handle VPNs for these offline map downloads, but oh well.

Just tested it today via Proton VPN - it works, too. Not sure what happened at the beginning of the week.
