Emoji Keyboard Disappeared

I have replaced my phone with P9, and a family member inherited my old P6. Both phones were wiped, GOSed and manually configured from scratch. I have a pretty strict setup as it makes my phone less useful, and therefore helps me use it less.

Both phones are missing a native Emoji keyboard that I am pretty sure my old P6 had pre-wiping out. I don't use emojis, but this is not the case for the new owner.

Have I configured ourselves out of it? Or is it no longer a part of the (native) keyboard? I use most generic settings for everything, such as manual GMT offset instead of TZ locale, English (US) for a system language (not my original language) and all software is up-to-date.

I would appreciate any tips on how to get the emojis back natively - thanks.

The way the default keyboard behaves can depend on the app used.

Some examples I've observed:

In the default Messaging app, the enter key is replaced by the emoji, unless you use the shift key to switch it back to newline/enter.

In Signal, long pressing the enter key can bring up the emoji option (although the OS-provided emojis there are inferior to Signal's built-in emoji library)

I'm Vanadium's search bar, I cannot find a way to get the emoji key to appear.

Maybe it could help to name the specific apps where emojis are needed? Others might have found a workaround

zzz This is exactly what I was looking for - Signal's way works on SimpleX, my primary messenger (and the one I encouraged for P6).
