How to allow a third-party phone app ?

Hi,
I'm trying to install a third-party phone app (to help resolve https://github.com/GrapheneOS/os-issue-tracker/issues/4716) but even when allowing all permissions there's still a dialog from GOS telling the phone app is denied access.
There's a link (in the dialog) to an explanation but the link doesn't work (touching it doesn't do anything) and it's impossible to see the source of the link. Does anyone know where does that link points to ?

If its set as the phone app in Settings > Apps > Default apps, then its probably that Phone & SMS need to be turned on for the profile you're using.

In owner profile:
Settings > System > Users > (user profile) > Turn on phone calls & SMS

If its not the default phone app or the Phone calls & SMS thats the problem, then I wouldn't know what else.

I just can't change the telephone app in Settings > Apps > Default apps. I see the one I want to use (ACR phone) greyed out, and if I select it the dialog saying something like "access denied" pops up.
(I would post a screenshot but this forum doesn't make it easy)

Also I'm only using 1 profile.

Bizarre, but I'm afraid I don't know what this problem is. I've just successfully installed and set ACR Phone as the phone app with no problem (same with Fossify Phone as well).

It's a standard Android feature to restrict some permission if the app is side loaded. There's an option in the corresponding app info page to change that.

Oh nice thanks. I looked into this page but found nothing, and thanks to you I looked again and found the option in the 3-dots menu.
