Hey all,

I tried installing the new PriceCharting Android app, but found that it was marked as incompatible with my device on Google Play. I tried downloading the app from the aurora store, but the app recognizes that it was downloaded from another source and redirects to the Play Store.

I contacted the devs for support, and this was their response:

Unfortunately we don't support GrapheneOS at this time and only support downloading the app through signed Google Play store copies..

I'm not sure why this is, as the app does indeed function for about 15 seconds if I disable the Play Store, before it boots me out with an error saying that it couldn't launch the Play Store. Perhaps this is an issue with Play Integrity?

Here is a link to the app on the Play Store

The issue is that they've marked their play store listing as requiring a stock OS licensing GMS. It's likely the app itself doesn't need that, but they've made it so it's required to get it from the play store, and since they don't allow you to get it through the play store, it leaves you with no viable path to get it.

There's no reason for them to be doing this, and especially to be banning GrapheneOS in this way. We have access to Play Store and they can fix this.

What an idiotic requirement! So it will install and work on certified phones that are 5 years behind on OS and firmware updates, but it won't install on GOS devices because they might not be secure?

I could maybe get behind this whole thing if they actually excluded insecure devices, but they don't.

I know it's against the thinking behind GOS, but, at some point, it might be necessary for GOS to basically lie and pass some of these checks in order for any apps to actually work on the OS.

I did respond a few days ago mentioning that the issue is caused by the play store listing requiring stock OS licensing GMS, recommending the attestation compatibility guide for supporting the OS, but I haven't heard back unfortunately
