I've read through quite a few threads on this and have tried a few different things but I still can't seem to get any sort of group text to work. I just got a new Pixel8a from Tmobile and was able to install Graphene a couple days ago and I've been loving the simplicity of it and it helps keep me from using my phone nearly as much as I used to. My only complaint is that I can't seem to get any group text. I tried installing google messages and that's not working. I would really like to use just the stock messaging app that came with the phone because it seems so simple. Thanks for the help and I'm sorry if people are getting tired of this question, I really did try to research this all day yesterday before asking for help this morning.

What exactly do you mean by "group text" – group SMS? SMS was never meant for group communications. If somebody replies to your SMS, only you (and no the other recipients of your original message) will receive the reply.

The stock (AOSP) messaging apps works just fine. Can you send SMS to single recipients?

I have installed sandboxed Play Services and Google Messages for RCS, which works fine with Deutsche Telekom in Germany.

For instant and group messaging I use Signal.

I'm not real good at all this technical stuff so please bear with me but when I talk about group text I just mean that I when I go to text a group of friends I add one person and then add a few more and then send a text and then everyone in the group can respond and all those messages are in the same chat window.

I can send SMS messages to single people at once including people that I am trying to text in a group and that all works fine. My messages do seem to be sending to that group but I'm not getting any of their responses.

I did download Signal in hopes of being able to use that but I have very few people in my contacts who use it so it will be some time before I can get them to switch. I'm usually that friend who tries stuff like this first and my friends think I'm crazy and it takes about a year before they start to follow me lol.

If the phone number was previously used on an iPhone and if your correspondents are using iPhones then it is necessary to deregister the phone number from iMessage.

de0u I didn't have an IPhone before but I was using Google Messenger. Some of the people were using Iphones but some weren't. I tried to take my phone number off of my google account. I considered making a new Google account with a brand new email just for the purpose of starting over.

Onepieceatatime When you were using Google Messenger were you using RCS? If so you can try reinstalling Google Messenger and reactivating RCS (see various forum posts) or you could try deregistering the number with Google Messenger.

At first I didn't have RCS on Google Messages and after playing around with it somehow it finally appeared that I had them, at least I wasn't getting the message that they weren't available for my sim. A few minutes ago I got an alert from Google Play Store on my phone that my Messages app was now available and I have RCS again. Gonna try sending another group text to see if it works.

So I turned off Message as my default app, gave it more permissions because it appeared it lost them when it wasn't the default app anymore. Turned off my wifi and then made it my default app and everything came back all at once. It came back on with 150 messages from just one group over the past couple days. Now I wonder if I made a mistake because it's been nice and quiet in my life since I switched to Graphene and didn't have much contact with the outside world.
