  • Web Installer question: How does it get the release?

Hi folks, I want to install Graphene on my stock unlocked Pixel 8 phone. I am reading the web install instructions, but I must be missing something. I am good down to the line that says:

You need to obtain the GrapheneOS factory images for your device to proceed with the installation process.
Press the button below to start the download:
Download release

How does that know I want to install Graphene? Won't that still install Android again?
I assume I am missing something which would have told it I am install Graphene, but I have it a few times and don't see that in the steps. Thanks for helping me find it! :)

When you press the Download release button, that downloads GrapheneOS to your computer, and you then flash that to the Pixel, it all happens in the browser.

Oh! Wow, OK, thank you.

But just so I am clear, does it prompt me for a URL or ...? How does it know I want Graphene just by connecting my phone to my PC and opening my browser? Was I supposed to go to some specific page as part of the preparation?

Again, I feel like I must be missing a step here, and I want be sure I wasn't supposed to do something prior to this step to make that work, in other words. Thanks for the help,

(FYI, I have not yet done the Unlock Bootloader step. Maybe that's why I am not seeing a Download release option in the Fastboot menu?)

perish you aren't, you just press the button. The web install page is on grapheneOSes website. It doesn't have access to the stock OS. Its just running a web script from the website to start the download and install it onto your phone via webUSB.

Oh jeez. So embarrased. You actually click that button right there on that page. Somehow I didn't get that its a clickable button. I just watched a YT video and it became clear to me. Thanks! All set here for now.
