Trouble getting apps onto home screen

Hello. I set up a Pixel Tablet today as my first GrapheneOS device. Everything is working great except..I can't get any apps onto my home screen. I have multiple apps installed; I can launch them by swiping up from the bottom of the screen or other methods, but I can't seem to figure out how to get a shortcut/launch icon on the main screen.

I've read multiple posts saying you can hold your finger down on any blank space on the screen and then select the app you want a shortcut for. That has not worked for me. I get options for widgets and wallpaper but I don't have an option to add an icon.

I've also seen multiple posts saying that once you have the app drawer open you can drag the apps onto your desktop. That is not working either. I can hold the app down and drag it around but if I try to move it off of the app drawer space it just goes back to its original position in the app drawer and nothing is added to the home screen.

Any advice? Thanks!!!

Still having same issue. Occurs on all profiles. If I hold down an empty place on the screen, the only options I get are wallpaper & style, widgets, and home settings. I also noticed that widgets doesn't seem to work. Example: If I open widgets and select a clock widget to add to home screen, it just goes back to the home screen and the widget is not there.

late-bridge You should be able to open the app drawer, press and hold until it vibrates, then drag, it should show your desktop and let you place it out. Widgets work the same, or you can tap the widget and then tap add.

alfred That was my understanding, but it is not working. It never starts to vibrate.

late-bridge you may want to go to settings and search 'home'. From the results, click add apps to home screen. Then when you download new apps they should be added automatically.

Hello, were you able to solve this problem? I was researching the same issue and came across your post. I also have a Pixel Tablet.

I was unable to get widgets or apps on the home screen, either by pressing the home screen or dragging from the tray. Until, I tried dragging the "Settings" app, which was allowed and placed it on the HS! Then I was able to drag any app from the tray, press the HS to add and install widgets, etc.

No idea why that worked, but maybe this will help others.

There's another setting too that is called, 'lock app icons in place' which prevents you from moving them. I can't remember how to get to that one but its definitely in settings somewhere. Make sure it is OFF. If I find how to get to it, I'll let you know. :)
